Monster Energy WDD, LET`S GO!!
Still unbelievable for us.
Being invited by Monster Energy to one of their events was like having our birthday, Christmas, and New Year’s all at once.
The World Drift Day is held every year by Monster Energy. On this day, drift events take place all around the world. This year, it was on October 11-12 in Tököl, near Budapest. Even though it was by far the longest trip of the season, it was totally worth it!
We DriftBastards had been excited about this event all season, even with the tough 1000 km drive.
Being able to travel with all the cars and the entire team was the cherry on top. It really allowed us to enjoy driving to Hungary together.
On Thursday afternoon, we set off together from Switzerland. After a short overnight stop just outside Munich, we covered the remaining highway kilometers on Friday. In total, we spent one and a half days on the road, driving for over 13 hours. With a van and trailer, it just doesn’t go any faster!
Upon arriving in Tököl, Hungary, we were greeted by Drift Masters superstar Kevin Piskolty. Since it was already dark, we parked the trailers and headed toward our hotel in Budapest. The hotel where we were staying for the weekend was right in the city center. A cold beer was a 'must-have' immediately after check-in. However, it turned out to be a relatively short night, as we were completely exhausted.
Saturday, World Drift Day
Our first time in Hungary. We were warmly welcomed. The locals were super friendly and helpful. After the drivers briefing, held in English just for us, it was finally time to start drifting. The track was technical, fast, and perfect for tandem battles—exactly our style. The track layout was split into two mirrored tracks, giving the roughly 70 participants plenty of driving time.
However, problems with our cars didn’t take long to appear. The numerous events in 2025 had really taken a toll on the machinery. Renato tore both drive shafts simultaneously during the first practice run. Michael was already struggling early in the morning with clogged fuel injectors and lambda readings. Janick’s BMW, of all weekends, decided to give the cylinder head gasket its final farewell. After an unsuccessful repair attempt and no way to get a replacement engine, the E36 was pushed for a few laps with an overheating radiator before we had to pull it off early.
Only Domenik’s 350z and Alex with the S14 were able to attack the track without interruption, at least representing our team to some extent.
By Saturday afternoon, four out of five DriftBastards cars were drifting again. Action from Monster Energy continued until the evening. Stunt bikes, ATVs, drift cars, 1/4-mile races, and more. The Hungarian spectators were treated to tire smoke and the smell of race fuel until sunset. The WDD was a huge success, and we really enjoyed getting to know the Hungarian drifting scene.
On Saturday evening we went back to Budapest. The city didn’t disappoint, and we can only highly recommend visiting the sights. Sunday was short, as we were already planning our return trip. Drifted.hu held a Pro2 Championship round in Tököl that day. However, the rules only allowed 17″ tires, which we couldn’t use and didn’t have compatible rims for. After coordinating with the track crew, we were allowed to participate in the practice session. At noon, we packed up our paddock, loaded the cars, and, unusually, set off on the long drive home on time.
We would like to sincerely thank Monster Energy, Drifted.hu, and Kevin Piskolty. Tököl, we’ll be back!
